Our Initiatives

The Parks Foundation exists to support and enhance Greenwood’s public recreational spaces, facilities and amenities. Our current initiatives are designed to meet the most important needs of the Greenwood Parks & Recreation Department.

Play in the Shade

It is important that our parks and facilities have adequate shade for children to play. Shade covers allow children and adults to relax and play without overheating, keep equipment cooler to the touch, increase the life of playground equipment, and protect people from harmful UV rays that can increase their risk for skin cancer later. The Greenwood Parks Foundation is committed to increasing shade at parks and recreational facilities through the funding of additional FUNbrellas at Freedom Springs Aquatic Center, shade structures at parks and increased tree plantings.

Beautify Greenwood

The Greenwood Parks Foundation is looking forward to the beautiful spring and fall flowers planted at various parks and public buildings around Greenwood. This is a great way to help us beautify our community – either by donating or by volunteering with a group of friends, family or colleagues. Check our events page in spring and fall for group planting days and opportunities.

For the Dogs

Are you an animal lover? Help the Greenwood Parks Foundation add new amenities to our city’s three dog parks. In coming years, we hope to help make various improvements to the parks, including the possible addition of shelter houses.

Scholarships for Kids

The Greenwood Parks Foundation would like to make recreational programming more widely available to all children regardless of their family situation. Help us to provide scholarships for sports, recreational classes, swimming lessons and kids camps by donating to our scholarship fund. Eligibility for scholarships will be determined by children’s eligibility for the free or reduced school lunch program.
